Why is the domain name in ‘on hold’ status?

When the Registry is notified of a legal dispute involving a .eu domain name, it places the domain name ‘on hold’ in accordance with the Terms and Conditions for .eu, .ею and .ευ domain names.

While the domain name is ‘on hold’:

  • The domain name cannot be transferred to another private individual or legal entity (registrant).

  • The domain name cannot be transferred to another registrar.

  • The registration data related to the domain name cannot be modified.

  • The website and email linked to the domain name remain fully active.

The ‘on hold’ status remains in effect until the Registry is notified of, and implements, the outcome of a .eu Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) or court proceeding.
